High Intensity Laser Therapy (HILT) in the treatment of orthopedic diseases in horses
The aim of the research was to evaluate the impact and effectiveness of HILT in the treatment of the most common orthopedic diseases in horses, such as osteoarthritis and tendon injury. The research was carried out on a group of 6 horses diagnosed with osteoarthritis or an injury of the digital flexor tendon, which were treated by HILT. The evaluation of the treatment was based on orthopedic and ultrasound examination performed before and after treatment. There was no need for pharmacological sedation in any of the horses. The average duration of one treatment session was 11 minutes and 45 seconds. The average number of treatment sessions per one horse in the course of the laser therapy was 10.5. No health deterioration was observed in any of the patients, but in one patient the treatment had no positive effects.
Key words: High Intensity Laser Therapy, HILT, osteoarthritis, tendon injury.
